The Open Air Museum Finsterau

Description:

Inside and out, for everyone, all day, all year round. The Finsterau open-air museum is a museum for all kinds of weather, a traveling museum, a museum for spring, summer, autumn and winter. It is a farmhouse museum featuring living rooms and a sense of well-being. Farmhouses and entire farmsteads as well as a village forge, a chapel and a roadside inn were set up here from all over the Bavarian Forest. A beautiful, light-flooded gazebo near the inn's garden and an adventurous roofed playground offer shelter during the rain. Cows, sheep and two donkeys guard the pasture fence, while flowers and herbs beckon from the farm gardens.

An accessible piece of past reality unfolds under an open sky. The living rooms and rooms are filled with things and furniture that people lived and worked with. Located 935 meters above the zero standard (“NHN”), hidden behind the forests and mountains of the national park, close to the Bohemian border, the rural past has found a reserve: the Finsterau Open Air Museum.

The museum is animated by festivals and markets, popular music, crafts and games for children. Special exhibits educate and entertain. The museum inn and the Café Heimat offer relaxation and entertainment.
The hiking trails in front of the museum gates lead deep into the Bohemian Forest and up into the mountains of the national park. Motorcyclists and cyclists stop here.
